
After a long period of recovery, mediocrity, and general disaster, The Beach Boys have finally produced an album that can stand with Pet Sounds: the old vocal and instrumental complexity has returned and the result largely justifies the absurd faith some of us have had that The Beach Boys were actually still capable of producing a superb rock album.

Pet Sounds is the best Beach Boys album, and one of the best of the 1960s. The group here reached a whole new level in terms of both composition and production, layering tracks upon tracks of vocals and instruments to create a richly symphonic sound.

In January of 1969, The Beatles got together with director Michael Lindsay-Hogg to film the rehearsals for the bands first live concert in 3 years. They recorded the sessions both as audio and video - planning a TV documentary, then later, an album. Fighting within the group led to most of the plan being scrapped. However the footage from this rehearsals was released the following year instead as a feature film: Let It Be.

Probably demos recorded shortly prior to the sessions for All Things Must Pass, this is Harrison playing solo, unaccompanied by anything but his voices and guitar, sometimes electric, but usually acoustic. The fidelity is absolutely marvelous, at the point of the top of the pyramid for an unreleased recording.
